“The person convincing the world that Virality is a medium for fine art.” - Forbes
“Whether in viral videos or renegade public performances, Vita Kari has an uncanny ability to command attention.” -AllArts
I believe that viral video — both the content of the video and the audience participation of the video, including comments, reposts, stitches, parodies — can be seen as a large-scale, digital performance piece. Especially if the intention of the artist was for the work to be that.
When a viral video grows on social media, it becomes a site-specific (online only), participatory work that evolves with its audience. It’s both an interactive spectacle and a mirror reflecting our collective consciousness. I consider virality an exploration of the ephemeral, contagious nature of ideas in our hyper-connected world—making it a perfect medium of the fine arts.
This body of work is an exploration of that.
