My Grandmothers American Dream (2024)
Using the symbol of the hamburger, I trace my grandmother's immigration from the Middle East to the United States. She told me her first meal in the US was a burger--which I later learned she lied about in order to make her story sound more glamorous. I see the hamburger as an emblem of America's complex allure—a viral symbol that’s replicated through our shared consciousness.
Each foam burger sculpture is adorned with patterns from her clothing. This work is my way of honoring her life and the history she lived through.
